Happy days!

The Victorian government has announced a further easing of restrictions, as the state is expected to pass the 90% vaccination rate by this weekend.

This means no more caps, no more density quotients, no more rules in terms of how many people can be in different spaces. The number of people in a pub or café – back to normal. You can stand up to have a drink. Dance floors are open. The only capacity limits are the normal restrictions based on the building or planning permits as it was before Covid-19. Almost all Covid rules are gone and we are getting very close to normal.

On a visit to St Kilda earlier this week I was shocked walking down Fitzroy Street to see how many cafés and restaurants were closed down. Not just on that day, but closed down for good. The effects of the pandemic will have a lasting impact on many businesses for a long time to come, but hopefully in five weeks’ time the MCG will be bursting with 100,000 people watching the cricket and we will enjoy a ‘normal’ summer and our beaches will be packed with people enjoying their old freedoms.

With summer only twelve days away it is perfect timing.
